A scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Spitak earthquake took place

In the period from December 5 to 8, 2021, the Russian-Armenian Center for Humanitarian Response, together with the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, held an international scientific and practical conference “The historical experience of the Spitak earthquake – modern technologies of seismic safety.”

The conference made it possible to exchange views and practical knowledge, to choose joint approaches, to get acquainted with the best practices in the field of protecting the population and territories from earthquakes and their consequences. Participants of various organizations from more than 10 countries discussed issues of automated monitoring systems, assistance to victims, minimization of the secondary consequences of earthquakes, readiness of the civilian population and much more.

In addition, international demonstration exercises were held to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake, involving the forces and means of the Russian MES, the Armenian MES, the Russian-Armenian Center of Humanitarian Response, the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center, the Armenian Red Cross Society and rescuers from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On December 7, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations took part in commemorative events dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Spitak earthquake and laid wreaths at the memorial.
