International scientific-practical conference “Historical experience of the Spitak earthquake – modern technologies of seismic safety”

From December 5 to December 8, 2021, a delegation of the MES of Russia headed by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation Nikolai Grechushkin will pay a working visit to the Republic of Armenia.
Within the framework of the visit, an international scientific-practical conference “The historical experience of the Spitak earthquake – modern technologies of seismic safety” will be held. The conference, dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of this tragedy, will allow to exchange views and practical knowledge, choose joint approaches, get acquainted with the best practices in the field of protecting the population and territories from earthquakes and their consequences. Participants of various organizations from more than 10 countries will discuss issues of automated monitoring systems, assistance to victims, minimization of the secondary consequences of earthquakes, readiness of the civilian population and much more.
After the conference, the participants will get acquainted with the work opportunities, material and technical and training base, opened in 2016 by the Russian-Armenian Center for Humanitarian Response.
In the practical part, international demonstration exercises to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake will be shown, with the involvement of the forces and means of the MES of Russia, the MES of Armenia, the Russian-Armenian Center of Humanitarian Response, the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center, the Armenian Red Cross Society and rescuers from the Islamic Republic of Iran.< br />
On December 7, the guests will take part in commemorative events in connection with the 33rd anniversary of the Spitak earthquake in the city of Gyumri. A wreath-laying ceremony is planned at the monument to the victims of the earthquake.
