On March 11, a group of 9 people were caught in an avalanche on Mount Aragats. RACHR`s instructor took part in the search and rescue operations organized by the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and the Mountaineering Federation of the Republic. The Center also provided the Armenian rescuers with 9 sets of avalanche equipment (avalanche transceivers, probes and special shovels).
As a result of the rescue operation, 8 people with injuries of varying severity were evacuated by helicopter. The location of the body of another participant previously reported missing was found.
RACHR warns that due to warming and melting snow, there remains a high risk of avalanches in the mountains of Armenia.
