The Board of the RACHR took part in commemorative events in connection with the 30th anniversary of the Spitak earthquake

December 7, in the city of Gyumri of the Republic of Armenia, commemorative events were held dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Spitak earthquake. The ceremony was attended by the Russian-Armenian Center of Humanitarian Response, headed by Deputy Minister, Co-Chairman of the Board Nikolay Grechushkin. From the Armenian side, the ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia, Co-Chairman of the Board of RACHR Arkady Balyan.
A wreath was laid at the monument to the victims of the earthquake.
“These days, we all pay tribute to the memory of the victims of this terrible tragedy, we express words of sympathy and support to everyone who survived the December days of 1988, to those who lost their loved ones because of this terrible disaster,” said N. Grechushkin during the memorial ceremony.
The Deputy Minister noted that the tragedy in Armenia shocked the whole world. From the first days, the Armenian people felt the support of other states. Doctors, rescuers and humanitarian aid arrived in the affected republic. More than 100 countries from all over the world provided humanitarian assistance.
The commemorative events ended with demonstrative exercises of the Armenian rescuers on conducting search and rescue operations.
