Lessons of Spitak Earthquake for the Whole World; Resilient Armenia

 

On April 23, RA Emergency Situations Minister Davit Tonoyan received Yuri Poleshchuk, Director of the RA MES Armenian –Russian Humanitarian Response Center from the Russian side, and Marina Tsaryova, representative of the Russian Union of Rescuers.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the application letter addressed to the RA ES Minister from the Russian Union of Rescuers, where the Russian side asked to support in organizing the scientific-practical conference on topic “Earthquake in Armenia – 30 years of tragedy: lessons learned and salvation experience” to be held in December current year in Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the conference is to analyze the historical experience and to improve the modern technologies of the population’s livelihoods and protection based on it.

The Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia noted that this year ahead to commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Spitak Earthquake “Resilience Day” would be declared and under the heading “Resilient Armenia” an international conference, events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Spitak Earthquake Commemoration, nationwide drills and Field Kitchen International Competition would be held.

The Minister expressed readiness to support the initiative of the Russian Union of Rescuers. The possibilities on convening the two countries’ conferences on the same topic simultaneously and the opportunities of carrying out joint activities via TV bridge were discussed. The parties reached an agreement on launching joint activities.
